It was a victory for Team Jacob last night as Taylor Launter escorted Kristen Stewart to a film premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival. There was no Robert Pattinson in sight as the Twilight co-star cosied up on the red carpet. Of course Kristen, 21, and British star R-Patz a real-life lovers - but in the Twilight movies his character vampire Edward Cullen and Launter's wolfish Jacob Black are bitter love rivals as they fight for the affection of Bella Swan.

Taylor and Kristen posed together as they leant their star power to the movie, A Better Life, which they do not appear in. Kristen played it casual in jeans and a black top, teamed with peep-toe heels, while Taylor cut a dash in a waistcoat, shirt and trousers combo. Their movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, will be released in November this year ahead of the Part 2 the following year.
A Better Life, meanwhile, which is like Twilight is distributed by Summit Entertainment, tells the story of an illegal Mexican immigrant struggling to build a decent future for his teenage son. The screenplay for A Better Life, originally known as The Gardener, was written by Eric Eason based on a story by Roger L. Simon.
Chris Weitz directs the movie adaptation, featuring Mexican star Demian Bichir (who has a recurring role on Weeds and played Fidel Castro in Steven Soderbergh's Che) is superbly restrained as the father, while newcomer Jose Julian delivers with honesty and passion as his son. Weitz and screenwriter Eric Eason present an outsider's look at immigrant life built around a few shaky plot devices.
